Tertiary League
The Archery NZ Tertiary League is being held across Aotearoa in 2025 and is now an official competition!
There are four postal shoots throughout the year, with one being held per ‘term’ (see term dates below). The round may be shot as many times as desired during the allotted time frame, and the highest score per archer shall be submitted by the indicated date.
The purpose of this event is to build on from the schools programs throughout the country, and create a competition that moves archers from the Youth format to the Adult format. The program is designed to give competent archers a full-distance league to compete in, whilst also allowing newer archers to work towards their outdoor tournament distances. Current students of any New Zealand tertiary institute may compete, in the divisions of Novice (up to one year of archery), Development (two to three years of archery experience) and Open.
Please download and read the Rules as well as the Shooting Schedule to know what and when you can shoot.

Four postal shoots shall be run per year, one in each term. Given that each tertiary institute has different term dates, the dates for each ‘term’ with respect to this postal league have been published on the schedule.
Current students of any New Zealand tertiary institute may compete, in the divisions of Novice (up to one year of archery), Development (two to three years of archery experience) and Open.
The round may be shot as many times as desired during the allotted time frame. The highest score per archer shall be submitted by the tertiary student coordinator by the indicated date, using the results template which will be supplied.
There are three bow divisions: Barebow/Longbow, Recurve and Compound.
Barebow consists of Recurve or Genesis bows with no tape or pin sights, no clickers, competition sights or stabilisers.
Longbow consists of wooden longbow or flatbow bows with no tape or pin sights, no clickers, competition sights, pressure buttons or stabilisers. Non-wooden arrows may be used.
Recurve consists of Recurve bows with either simple tape & pin sights or competition sights and stabilisers.
Compound equipment shall be as per World Archery rules. Genesis bows with sights are included in this category.
Archers may compete individually in any division equal to or above their current archery level:
- Novice division archers must be in their first year of archery;
- Development division archers step up from Novice, being in their second or third year of archery;
- Open division is for the more competent archers.
Scoring must be undertaken on official scoresheets (available on the website as a download).
All scoresheets must be fully completed and signed before scores are submitted to their coordinator.
In the event of ties, the archer with the most combined 10s and Xs is the winner. If still a tie, the archer with the most Xs is the winner. If both have the same number of Xs, the result shall be a tie. In order to count, the scoresheet must be signed by another archer as a witness.
